Leaders from the G8, including President Obama, plus leaders of 17 other nations agreed in principle to target reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and reduce global warming – committing to not allow an increase in worldwide temperatures more than 2 degrees Celsius by 2050. This was a landmark statement, as the United States has historically been unwilling to commit to such goals, and should not be overlooked.
However, as with most things, the overall impact and details of how to get there should be understood by those interested in environmental issues.
